Aylish Dunne art

My journey with art has been a long and creative process. As a perfectionist, I used to shy away from drawing for fear of lacking precision or natural talent. It was my journey with depression and anxiety that led me to begin expressing myself through art.

The more I explored drawing as an expression of my emotions, the more I was able to embrace my mental health story and the mess of everyday life. This in turn really ignited my passion for art as more than just a boredom reliever and begin viewing it as a tool to help others own their own journeys.

I particularly love the stripped back rawness of pencil and charcoal drawings and would say they are my go to materials (although as life changes and I change who knows what else will too). I also love experimenting with colour in a way that adds depth to the message of each piece.

I like adding words or messages to my creations, because it's reflective of my desire to add a layer of hope and direction to situations no matter how challenging they may be. I believe that words are also art and often begin my drawings with a sentence or word that inspires the art that flows around it.

I'm a trained Musical Theatre performer so performance and theatre is a very important part of my life. I had just returned home from spending three months living and training with Broadway performers in New York, when COVID-19 hit earlier this year. The impact of this on the Broadway community really hit home with me, having just lived in the city during its peak and seeing it get shut down so dramatically. This instigated a series of drawings exploring my love for the performing arts and my grief over its current uncertain future. Sharing this artwork with others has been really special, as it's something we are all experiencing in different capacities. It's moments like this that art feels more important than ever because it bonds us all in our fears, loss and our search for hope.

It's been a really exciting and rewarding journey from midnight drawings summing up my day to selling cards as part of a team. I'm really passionate about helping others to share positive and emotional messages of support and love, so designing these cards has been really key to that dream. The cards have already seen a lot of attention in the shops and I can't wait to see where it goes, there are so many new products and designs in the pipeline. We want to be part of a movement of creativity, transformation and hope during a difficult time around the world and would love more and more people to join us on this path.

Feel free to check out my cards below, they are for sale in our online boutique. If you click on each image it will open out the whole card. If you want to visit our store the shop sign above will take you there.
