I have been drawing and painting for most of my life from growing up in Dublin to living in New Zealand and England, the paints have always been a welcome companion.
I studied Fine Art at the Bristol School of Art and on the degree course in Art History with Open University. I have mainly worked in oil paints where I enjoy catching and exploring real interaction, moments in time and a sense of exchange. I feel with oils you get a depth and intensity that you don’t get with other mediums but maybe oils just suit my style more.
As an observer I like to be left with a sense of wonder as to what is or was or might be happening when viewing a picture myself. I like to combine my other passions in life, for running, music and architecture, into my art. I suppose my painting is more reality than conceptual but I enjoy depicting and mulling over concepts and then getting my interpretation out on canvas.
More recently working in oil pastels has changed my style a lot. I love the fantastic vibrant colours and blending affects that lead to other worldly outcomes that hopefully draw the viewer in. I love it when art is meaningful and impacting to different people in individual and unique ways, ‘Dances on the edge’.”

I make all my own frames these days as it gives me a freedom to make the frame to suit the painting and it provides a platform to use my woodwork skills and my love of working with wood. My personal preference for framing is the box or floating frame. I find this style of framing works for my art work. I also make frames for my artist friends.
